One vintage and very heavy cast iron pot-belly stove. It measures 36 tall, and comes apart in sections. It has a pivoting trap door to drain the clinkers or ashes out of the bottom and into a tray that would have been inserted into the rectangular open area at the bottom. Late 1800s/Early 1900s Estate brand coal or wood burning stove that was used for cooking food and providing heat in a railroad caboose or other train car. It is made of cast iron and is heavy. There is a small piece broken off on the top where the chimney connects, so if you plan to use this, it will need some extra flashing around the base of the chimney pipe. There is no chimney pipe with the stove. Lifter handle is here to take off the round covers to insert a pot in the hole, which kept pots in place while the train was moving. Inside there are two removable metal grates. This has been in storage for a while and will need to be cleaned, especially inside, which is rusty, but it’s in great shape other than the one break. This is very heavy and will require a truck or van, and at least 2 strong people to load it. We have one person available to help you load. This Stove is located in Superior, WY which was a product of the Union Pacific Railroad. Not to mention that the area is very rich in fossil fuels like Coal. It is an old Wood/Coal Potbelly Stove, used to heat the caboose and parlor cars. The railroad connection “Tell” is the raised lip that is surrounding the perimeter of the stove top. This design feature kept the kettles and pots from falling from the stove top, while the train was in motion. This stove comes with the Estate handle, a Cole’s Original Ash Shovel and a 6″ Stove Flue with the 6″ Stove Damper. Looked over the stove and did not notice any cracking of the metal. Latches and doors all open and close. Make sure to bring help and a vehicle that can transport it. Pennsylvania Railroad Potbelly Caboose Stove Cast Iron Coal Wood Burning. FINIAL NOT INCLUDED AND IS LISTED SEPARATELY. There is some surface rust but it is in excellent condition for it’s age. All hinges grates and latches in working condition. We believe this was made by the Hamilton, OH Estate Stove Company. This particular stove is a combination cooking and heating stove which can be used either for coal or wood burning or as a decorative piece for your house. This stove was given as a gift to a local private school in the original caboose. Later, it was given as a gift to my mother (let’s be honest it was really for my father) who was a beloved Math teacher. It had been kept in the caboose until the caboose was repurposed as a classroom. Since then, it has been kept on our covered front patio on the stand as shown. The stove was oiled when it was delivered to our home and has just been cleaned (with appropriate Cast Iron cleaner: Caron Doucet Cast Iron Soap) and oiled (Caron Doucet Cast Iron Oil) recently.
