Benjamin Franklin Style Antique Cast Iron Stove Coal Basket Fireplace Insert. This small, ornate 1840’s Ben Franklin Stove was likely used as bedroom fireplace insert stove and burned coal to take the chill out of a New England home’s bedroom. This stove has some lovely decorative details such as the brass finials and an ornate design of leaves, etc. On the top and side panels. This is a relatively small stove. Dimensions: 17″ across the front (at the top) x 28″ high (including the brass finials). Hearth area dimensions: 22 5/8″ wide x 10″ front to back. Coal basket dimensions: 7″ front to back x 11″ wide at the back and 15″ at the front x 5 1/2″ deep. There is a round 6 opening in the back to attach a stove pipe. Both grates lift out. There is a removable ash pan under the coal grate basket. It has 3 scroll style feet or leg (detachable) also made of cast iron. In overall very good condition and is not broken or chipped, etc. Could use a blacking. It is not signed or stamped anywhere that we noted. The age of this stove is circa 1840’s.
