Offered here is an ultra. Rare and highly collectible cast iron skillet. Made by the Portland Stove Foundry Co. Of Portland, Maine, featuring the distinctive clover logo. Unlike mass-produced skillets by Griswold or Wagner, Portland Stove Foundry cookware was made in much smaller quantities, making surviving examples scarce today. Maker: Portland Stove Foundry Co. Diameter: 10.25 (rim-to-rim). Just shy of 2 T. Weight: 3.11 lbs (lighter than most #8 skillets – a hallmark of this foundry). Markings: Raised clover logo, “Portland, ME”. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Sits flat on a marble countertop. Side walls are a bit crude and have excess material around the rim. Cooking surface is nice and smooth and glossy, but there is a divot and dot that is a high-spot. (see finger point pics). Why it’s special. Portland Stove Foundry skillets are considered true Americana – produced by a regional Maine foundry with limited output, making them much rarer than Griswold or Wagner pans. Their lighter, thinner castings are fragile, which is why so few have survived intact. This skillet, with its strong markings and smooth surface, is a top example for collectors. A fantastic addition to any vintage cast iron or Americana collection.
