With a nod of nostalgia, Rome’s cast iron waffle iron is based on the traditional style that grandma used to use. Designed for gas burner stoves and camping stoves. 6.75″ diameter cooking surface x 10″ overall length. Made by Rome Industries – a family camping specialty company that has been making the Original Pie Iron sandwich cooker since 1964. Now that I’ve had this for nearly a year, I figured I’d give a review. I seasoned it well when I first received it and continue to grease well with every use. I’ve never had a problem with it sticking. Make sure it’s throughly heated and greased before using and you are set! Definitely my favorite kitchen and camping tool. Fun to use, compact and beautiful! This waffle iron is amazing, but you must develop your technique to become a pro. First thing you need to do when it arrives is clean the protective wax off or melt it off. Make sure after washing the protective wax off that you dry it real good. I even put it over the stove and heat it up to make sure it’s completely dry. When it cools off begin the seasoning process which is located on the card attached to the waffle iron. Once seasoned it is ready for use. My first waffle I destroyed but after that they have been coming out perfect (to my liking). I make my waffles over a gas stove top. I also use a cooking spray before making each waffle. Now the difference between this stovetop iron and electric is that you have to babysit it and keep a eye on it so you don’t burn your waffles. Also find the temperature and batter consistency for your liking. Then after trial and error you will be making great tasting waffles. The texture and flavor is even better than the electric stuff. Good luck and I hope you catch on as quick as I did. I had never seasoned a cast iron before, but the seasoning instructions are pretty easy to follow and I never had problems with it. I use it over an eletric flat stove and have no problems. Just make sure you have mittens and are careful when flipping it so you wont get burned. The waffle recipe that comes with it is pretty awesome and I even added some blueberries to it the other day. We all love it! I dont have a lot of space and getting another big kitchen gadget was totally not in my plans! Would totally recommend it to anyone. Our stock all ships from our US-based warehouses.
