Super antique American cast iron country kitchen hearth stove hot water kettle. Orr Painter & Co Reading PA Pennsylvania. Large kettle marked for 9 quart capacity. Single gate casting with pivot cover & iron bail handle. Marked on top cover & O P & Co 9 on the bottom. Measures approximately 14 1/2 across including spout. Approximately 12 3/4 tall to top of bail handle when upright. In good condition with no cracks, some mold underfilling, interior with pitting & surface rust as pictured.

HERE IS A RARE ANTIQUE ENAMELED CAST IRON STOVE. EVEN THROUGH MUCH RESEARCH WE COULD NOT FIND A COMPARABLE DESIGN. THIS IS A LIFT FRONT WITH WEIGHTS LIKE IN A WINDOW SASH AS SEEN IN OUR PHOTOS. ALSO THE GREEN INSERTED MEDALLIONS GIVE IT A NICE TOUCH ALSO. THE ENAMELED ASH DRAWER JUST PULLS OUT AND IS NOT ATTACHED. THE ENAMEL IS IN USED CONDITION BUT NO MAJOR OR LARGE CHIPS TO THE ENAMELED CAST IRON. VERY HEAVY, WEIGHING OVER 60 POINDS. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS ARE 18″ INCHES TALL X 19″ INCHES WIDE X 11 INCHES DEEP. THE FIRE BRICK IN THE BACK HAS A CRACK BUT THESE ARE EASILY REPLACED. So when you’re living and picking in this kind of environment, It is not rare to come across real pieces of art and history. Cast in 1883, this diminutive cast iron stove purportedly is from a 19th century oyster fishing sloop that worked the Chesapeake Bay. In a remarkable state of preservation, the stove is only missing the cap to the kerosene vessel. The stove is in perfect working order with excellent period wicks. Dimensions 13.5 inches height, 13 x 13 inch base. Would make a great emergency stove and heating source when the power goes out!
