Birmingham Stove & Range (BSR). No 8 Cast Iron Skillet w/ Inset Heat Ring and Lid. 11-1/4″ Diameter (10-9/16″ Diameter without spouts), 15-1/4″ long with handle, 2-1/4″ High without Lid, 4-3/4 High with Lid. This is an unmarked Birmingham Stove & Range cast iron skillet with the BSR lid and an inset heat ring, 2 wide deep spouts, and no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It was made in the 1930’s-1940’s in Birmingham, AL. On the bottom, it is marked “8 D” in 3/4 letters. The underside of the lid has dimples to create a drip effect, keeping your food moist during cooking. The top of the lid is marked “8BX” under the loop handle. This is a time-consuming process. No harsh methods were used on this skillet. While there may be some unevenness in how the seasoning took, it has a very nice cooking surface with minor utensil and pitting marks that will fill with time and additional seasoning–see high resolution pictures and use the magnify feature. The lid fits very well with little to no play. This skillet has more than 8 newspaper thicknesses of rock from the center when tested on a flat granite surface. It should not be used on a smooth top stove and is best suited to a gas, electric or other stove with raised heating elements. I tested it on my gas stove and it was fine. Cast iron can be damaged if dropped or mishandled. I pack all cast iron items extremely well, using bubble wrap and additional packing materials.
