Fresh find from Western Virginia Country Estate is this Rare Antique cast iron stove pipe heat exchanger. Often referred to as a stove radiator these worked on the simple principle of salvaging heat from the stove pipe and moving it to the room thru convection. Popular during the turn of the century with parlor stoves its cast Victorian design matches the ornate details found on these stoves and increased the warmth they produced. You find a number of different designs in old catalogs for sale but it is extremely rare to find even the parts from one much less a complete example. This survivor was made in Ephrata, Pa between 1898 and 1901 when Sprecher Brothers Manufacturing appears to have been bought out by another company From catalogs searches it appears they made 4 different models including this 9 National model which appeared in a 1899 catalog calling it a deluxe model fitting for the most fancy parlor rooms As the pictures show this one while a survivor of over a 115 years does show a few scars with minor scrapes and dings in the tin jacket covering that you would expect to see. It even sports a hole where it looks like something feel or dropped on it puncturing the tin. The Cast iron top and bottom show traces of the original factory finish as you can see in the pictures Wonderful piece of history and one of our favorite finds.
