Rare, Antique CASTLE CRAWFORD Stove
This Bostonian, traditional and classic Castle Crawford has a black cast iron finish with beautiful nickel trim. This is a’top of the line’ antique stove that was originally fueled by wood/coal. It was converted to burn PROPANE and was used primarily as a supplementary heat source in a kitchen. It has 6 burners, a large oven, warming drawer, and two bottom storage compartments. There are also 3 shelves – one larger one on top and 2 small ones below (see photos). The nickel trim can be found at the front of the stove top, at the front of each of the 3 shelves, as well as the 2 handles. There is also an orginal, nickel trivet which sits on top. 56″ wide, 30″ deep and 56.5 tall. It comes apart in sections – the base, the middle and the top. This INCREDIBLE piece was manufactured by and marked Abendroth Brothers NY. It is made from Heavy cast iron, with stunning floral embossed detailing on the sides and legs (which are removable). There are four burners, ogre shaped edging, there are opening doors on tree sides, the back is embellished with an ornate crest. Compare with many other examples of similar salesman samples for this company this one is much more detailed/ornate, still remains original nickel finish.. Rare cast iron parlor stove by Union Stove Works of NY. This is coming from the estate of a man who was an. Expert clock repairman and restorer. Restored this stove probably in the 1970s. He was a life long stove collector and this is the best one from his personal collection. According to one website, this form from the 1870s is extremely rare. Appears to be in good condition. The man had outfitted the interior with a light bulb complete with a switch on the back side. I believe the iron has been painted black. The windows have clear plastic, perhaps originally glass? The top finial is held on by a bolt, but is lose and would need to be reconnected. All the doors function well. Measurements: 43″h x 20″w. Feet can be easily removed for transport. The grates have a flat grate rod that shakes right & left as well as pulls out to shake ashes down (See pics). The bottom air vents slide open with no issues. The 4 front doors are mica lined which give a beautiful warm glowing effect as people gather to socialize around this centerpiece stove. Grates and brick work are in great condition. This beautiful piece of the past would be a great restoration project. The stove height, floor to stop of finial is approx. 48″ The measurement of the with outside foot to foot is approx 26″.
