Here is a wonderful ornate cast iron parlor stove by Abendroth Bro’s of New York City. The stove is not dated. We feel that design elements date it to the turn of the century (1900) or shortly after. The stove is particularly well-proportioned and pleasing in appearance. Ornate, featuring lots of curves, scrollwork, geometric decoration, and cabriole legs. It is in excellent condition with superb quality casting. There is a small piece missing from the right hand side of the ash cover plate – you can see the one on the left side. These were handles to remove the ash cover plate. The legs slide nicely into grooves on the underside of the body. The sides of the stove feature intricate scroll work. The corners of the stove apron to either side of the foot rest are marked “ABENDROTH BRO’S and “NEW YORK CITY. An oval badge above the sliding sets of doors reads, “MODEL 3 PARLOR”. Atop the amazing layered coin design on the top sits a vasiform finial which functions as a humidifier since its cover could be removed to fill the vase with water, moisturizing the heated air from the stove. The vase cover features beautiful scroll work and could serve as a teapot rest. All four doors slide open and closed easily. The back of the stove is wonderfully styled with deco geometric patterns. The grates inside are all present. One is missing a rib but the stove could certainly be used for heat. When we found this stunner in upstate New York it was rusty, dirty, missing the back leg, and had the ashy remnants of the last fire kindled in it who knows how long ago. We carefully cleaned it, fashioned a sturdy back leg out of square stock (the back leg does not show). We applied a coat of stove black to every surface, a vintage finish which was used on these parlor stoves. It is what provides that wonderful, softly gleaming surface. (We will send along a tube of stove black so you can properly care for this stove we recommend that it NOT be painted). The stove stands just under 36 tall including the finial, The foot print measures 30 x 20 and it weighs in at a hefty 150 lbs. This beauty is a rare and desirable stove. It is still usable and will make a fabulous statement in your parlor or collection. We could not find the same stove elsewhere – i. T may be one of a kind.
