It is Rusty, Dusty, dirty, scratched, paint has come off and what is there is faded. It does not have the mate for the mounting bracket, so the mounting hardware is not complete. This very rare original mailbox and manufactured by Reading Stove Works in Reading, Pennsylvania. The mounting bracket has “PAT MAY 8 1894 “. There is no lock. The mailbox is cast iron. The approximate weight is 40 lbs. The approximate overall measurements are: Height is 17 inches, Width is 13-3/4 inches and Depth is 7 3/4 inches, not including the mounting bracket. Antique US Postal Mailbox, Cast Iron, Danville PA Stove & MFC CO, 1927 WITH KEY. This solid beautiful mailbox has just undergone a complete fresh restoration. These cool mailboxes were painted olive drab green up until 1955. We decided to put it back original color for a unique look rather than the red/white/blue. It was blasted cleaned and painted with automotive grade paint and clear to give that lasting finish. All of the gold lettering was hand done under the clear. We finished it off with a new lock and key set like the originals and reproduced the collection tag. I have not seen a cleaner looking restoration on one of these cool mailboxes.
