Cast Iron Parlor Wood Stove Ransom & Son Albany New York Patn’t 1880

Cast Iron Parlor Wood Stove by Ransom & Son Albany New York patented 1880. Actually marked Signet Airtight probably for that time it was.. It has an 18×24-in base the footprint from the legs is probably a little bit larger. The front has sliding doors so you can view the fire also below the doors is the sliding damper where you can regulate the airflow when the doors are closed. The side door is 9 x 5- 3/4 opening. The fire box is approximately 8 in x 12 in x 16 in. With the finial included it is 34 in high without the finial it is 26 in high to the open top. It shows a 5-in diameter pipe exhaust. The finial had four swirly sections underneath the water holder one of them is broken off if you compare two photos you can see that. Just face that top part with a missing section toward the back wall and no one will ever know. There is another section of swirly cast iron that is broken off the wiring is holding this together I didn’t know what that wiring was for until I took a really close look that can be put together with JB weld. This weighs in the neighborhood of 50 or 60 lb my guess. Lightly wire brush the stove a bit and on a cool afternoon put Ransom stove polish on and almost immediately after it dries you can buff it off and this thing will look amazing. There are no cracks or chips in the body or the legs or the top of this item except for that one broken part mentioned. It actually does not appear to have been used very much. Antique 1800’s SEARS cast iron parlor stove for repair or restoration

Antique 1800’s SEARS/ROEBUCK cast iron parlor stove for repair or restoration. I believe this last sentence to be historically correct… A friend of mine who is a cast iron and stove enthusiast-historian stated that this is accurate. There are six doors in the top 2/3 of the stove they all at one time had Isenglass installed in the door frames so that the fire glow could be viewed from pretty much all around the stove. It has a good coal pot and working twisting shaker. You would need an extension for the shaker so as not to burn your hand. There is a crack in the exhaust elbow that could be brazed shut. There are other areas of the store that need to be brazed I have tried to show all the breaks in the photos. There is what I think is called a reburner, a box like exhaust section that fit at the bottom of the back of the stove this would need to be adapted so it could be screwed on the back of the stove. This stove would not be a working stove but rather a good looking addition to a parlor. AS IS, is how we are offering it. There is no top finial. The round top section is removable so that you would have a cooking surface or a teakettle heating spot. The top, the body and the base are all in good condition not busted up or cracked. Other parts have cracks as shown in the photos. A very nice decorative item at present but not a usable item unless you are handy and can repair the things mentioned. A bit of history from one of America’s largest and longest operating stores in the USA. Probably made in the late 1800s or early 1900s. At present the stove is black with gold paint trim the gold paint would have to be removed or it would probably burn off the first time you use the stove after it was fixed… That would be one way to get rid of it!
