It can put out as much as 35,000 BTUs with the air vent (the draft) opened all the way. But we found we had to partially close the draft to keep from getting the rooms downstairs too hot. Ideal log length is 16 in. If put in diagonally it may take logs as long as 17 in. But it becomes frustrating to try to use logs that are too long.
