This delightful miniature is finely made of cast iron and was created by the Grey Iron Casting Company of Mount Joy, PA. Grey Iron began as the Wrightsville Hardware Company in 1881 to manufacture toys. In 1912, the company assumed the new name of the Grey Iron Casting Company and went into business on its own, based in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. The company produced a wide array of iron banks and toys, including military miniatures. The company’s factory burned down in 1979 and the company ceased to exist. This miniature stove is a salesman sample of the Spark stove, and was used to show prospective buyers how the final product would look like. The stove features a black finish, with hand-painted gilded detailing, floral painted flute cover, and red painted vents. The stove also comes with the original poker. The stove’s doors all open, as do all the vents. There is a lever on the right side that tilts the grate on the inside of the belly of the stove to drop ashes. The piece is marked on the inside Grey Iron Casting Co. Tove is in very good antique condition, with very minor wear/scuffing and patina commensurate with age. No chips or cracks.
