There is a little gate on the bottom that opens and closes, and that still works the tiny gate on the front as shown in the photos also still opens and closes. I don’t know if this was designed for actual use or just display, to me it looks like it would be used for preparing coals for camping, like Dutch oven cooking. I have not tried using it for that.
