This is a cast iron plaque that would have been attached to a cooking stove made by the Born Range Co. Also known as the Born Steel Range Co. They made high-end stoves and ranges for restaurants and you’d also find them in wealthy homes. They exhibited at the 1893 World’s Columbian Expo and won a medal. These medals were awarded after the expo closed and this company made a mold from the original and attached the copies to their stoves. See the photo in the listing of the stove and some text that says they were awarded the medal (these two images are not included with the item in this listing). The piece is 8 1/2″ long and 3 1/4″ wide and is in VG condition with no damage but there is overall wear, toning loss, some tarnish, a few rust spots.

Amazing Antique Cast Iron Glenwood Gold Medal Stove Dual Gas Wood Coal Porcelain. Stove looks as if it could be in working condition, but was removed from a house that was not operational, therefore it is untested. Seems to have all parts… VERY heavy, around 500 lbs. This stove could be an incredible piece to restore and use or beautiful to display as is. There is some spider cracking on the top inch or so of the left porcelain door at the top.
